Decorative plaster choosing: what to pay attention for?

Volumetric drawings and textured wall coverings are the latest interior trend of the season. Decorative plaster helps to implement them in the house. What types of plasters are exist? How to choose the material and not to make a mistake? Let’s understand everything in detail.

What the decorative plaster is?

  • Applied to any mineral surfaces with proper preparation;

Materials differ in the degree of strength, resistance to wear and external factors. Decorative plasters are divided into species according to the main constituent substance:

Mineral plasters. Powder-like materials that are diluted with water to the state of the paste. They have excellent vapor permeability (lets air in). Create an inelastic coating, that is, any vibration, both external and internal, can lead to micro cracks on the surface. The average service life of such plasters is 5-7 years.

Acrylic plasters. They are a pasty material that passes air and creates an elastic coating (does not crack from mechanical influences). To create texture, you can use both a conventional spatula and special decorative rollers. If the plaster applied correctly, the acrylic coating serve for an average of 10 years.

Silicone plasters. Air is passed through this plaster easily. Creates an elastic coating. Can be applied even on old coatings, without completely cleaning the surface. Recommended for thermal insulation systems with mineral wool. The texture is created easily with the help of both spatulas and rollers. On average, the silicone coating can serve up to 15 years.

How to work with plasters?

декоративные штукатуркиThe method of applying decorative plasters offers mandatory priming of surfaces. Typically, quartz-primer is used most often. It creates a rough coating and does not allow the plaster to creep.

Depending on the thickness of the application, one or another pattern can be obtained. The more elastic material, the more comfortable and supple it is in work, the finer the pattern can be obtained.

For those one who apply decorative plaster with their own hands first time – it is better to focus on materials with fillers. Decorative plasters by TRIORA with the effect of “lamb” and “bark beetle”, makes pattern during the application and does not require special skills.
