One must do thing before painting

Gavrilenko

There is a secret of a professional painter: the better the preparation, the better the result. So what cannot be missed during works? How to create an ideal base for painting? You can read about the most important nuances in our article.

Four steps of preparation

The main thing in preparation for painting is the even surface, which is ready to accept all subsequent materials creation. Step by step preparation consists of these following stages:

  • Cleaning of the surface;
  • Putty applying for shortcomings correction;
  • Alignment (grinding) of the formed hillocks;
  • Surface priming;

The first three steps are quite understandable – you give the wall a smoothness, bring the impeccable to the surface with flaws. When the wall is already really reminds you the white sheet, you can ask a reasonable question: “What else is a primer for?” We give you an answer. Primer is a guarantee that the paint could be applied successfully already with the first layer and does not dry up with spots.

What does the prime provide?

Primer is a substance, which contains a binding dispersion. Thanks to it:

  • micro particles of the mineral surface are fastened together firmly;
  • old or loose walls do not crumble, a strong layer is created;
  • the primer is absorbed deep into the wall, creating a smooth coating;

Due to this, in subsequent works, the paint falls on the surface evenly, and more rationally. As a result – an even layer, uniform coloration, solid color.

Useful advice: Before applying the primer, remove dust from the surface and wipe the walls with a slightly damp cloth.

How to choose the right primer?

There is a primer for each type of the surface.

Choose material, depending on the type of your walls and the needs of the room.

How to understand is the wall primed sufficiently? It should leave no traces and not shine.

Test the surface: after drying, draw on the wall with a slightly damp hand. If there are no traces left – the wall is primed sufficiently. If there are traces, you need to apply one more layer.

As for shine, this is a sign of the surface overpiming.  Do not overdo it! – It is an important commandment of quality repairs. An excess layer of the primer makes the surface slippery so other materials cannot hold onto it. Evaluate each dried layer carefully if you do not want to rub the glaze with sand cloth.

The number of primer layers depends on the degree of its concentration. Weakly concentrated primers can be applied in two layers and it is enough to apply just one layer of the high concentration one.

When the primer is not needed?

Primer is superfluous only in one case – if you use a ready acrylic putty, which already includes a binding dispersion. In order not to overdo it, carefully read the instructions of the manufacturer.

The process of priming is a simple task – it is enough to apply the material evenly to a clean wall and dry thoroughly afterwards. A little time and efforts – it is a worthwhile investment into the quality of the result. Prime and strengthen without doubt. That is must do things before painting.
