The history of the Stockholm design fashion week

For more than 15 years in a row, world famous designers and talented debutants have gathered annually in Stockholm design fashion week. Its program includes exhibitions, fairs, presentations and creative evenings. The main theme of the collections is the Scandinavian design, and the goal is to develop the most popular interior direction, create new pearls of style and exchange experiences. There are about 45 thousand participants from 100 different countries gathered this year in Stockholm. It is needless to say, how varied the exhibitions were. Let’s look at the main interesting novelties.

One hundred faces of Scandinavian

Initially, we perceive the Scandinavian style as discreet and laconic, with soft pastel colors in the design. This year designers retained the mandatory minimalism, but they drastically went deeper into details, expanding the boundaries of the concept of simplicity.

The first thing that has changed in Scandinavian is the colors. As guests of the exhibition have noted in the reviews, the Swedes are managed skillfully with flowers and forms. To replace the cold north shades came a warmer ones and their original combination. The restrained natural shades of plants, berries and flowers palette are used widely. Mint, blue, delicate peach and blue – all these colors were prevailed in the works of designers at the exhibition.

Complex forms. Furniture has remained as laconic – not a single extra decorative detail. Designs differ with the expense of colors, shapes that are more complex, combinations of materials and functionality. For example, now a simple hinged shelf can have a charging for USB.

Attention to the light. Designers began to use in the decor not only the lamps, but also the lighting effects that can be created with their help. The effects of light and shadows, the diffuse light and the impressive shapes of fixtures – all these should be used in the new Scandinavian.

Personal space. Armchairs and sofas with high backs, hiding seated and even small houses – many elements in the interior are created so that a person can retire, rest or work.

Comfortable office space. Modern offices are becoming more adapted to the needs of workers. Convenient armchairs, transformable furniture, abundant lighting, stylish space dividers and soundproof zones are created taking into account ergonomics, convenience and environmental friendliness. Moreover, the offices have being saved from boring flowers and more attention is paid to recreation areas.
